I'm Back From My Roadtrip!

I just got back from a great road trip around my New England backyard!  Chris and I took a grand tour of Maine & Novia Scotia - totally by car...  Some of our stops I knew exactly where to eat and others I threw to the wind.  Needless to say there were some major food winners along the way.  Above is from one of my favorites. Red's Eats in Wiscasset, ME right at the bridge on route 1!  I guess I must like waiting in long lines for my food ala Pepe's Pizza.  After an hour or so of waiting your food tends to taste better (because you're starving!!).

The day we went to Red's everything was perfect the sun was low in the sky, the weather had cooled down and the line was just short enough it was bearable.  Until that day I had been hankering for a great lobster roll just with butter on a toasted hotdog bun.  Not everywhere does this!?  Most places serve everything cold covered in mayo - what are they thinking?

I think we ordered the perfect dinner for two.  One huge lobster roll (1.5 lobsters worth), fried whole clams, 1 grill cheese, a side of fries and a whoppie pie for dessert!  I dare anyone to find this meal in CT, I've been everywhere and this takes the lobster & clams!

I know Red's is a staple that everyone knows about but I have to include it as great eats in my road trip.  It came to Wiscasset in 1954 and hasn't stopped moving lobster rolls in a family style that you just can't beat!  The best part is that if you are extra hungry you can have a scoop of classic blueberry ice cream while in line.  There is an ice cream stand half way through your wait!!
